サイドガゼットプレート FD2型シビックタイプRの車体剛性は非常に高いレベルに仕上がっております。しかしながら、量産車として宿命の衝突安全基準に沿った剛性の低い部分を作らざるおえません。特に車内モノコックとエンジンルーム接合部分の剛性が不足しており、車内では高い剛性感を感じますが、サーキット走行など極度な条件下ではエンジンの揺れ、サスペンションの不快な動きなどを抑えられず剛性不足を感じます。そこで、スプーンではドア取り付け部分とホイールハウスを面で補強するガゼットプレートを開発。取り付けることによってさらに高い次元での剛性を獲得し、サスペンションの正確な動きにも寄与します。
The FD2 Civic Type R has excellent chassis rigidity from the factory, however as a mass produced car - crash safety standards require crumple zones and a certain amount of cushioning in the front that keeps the area ahead of the firewall from it's true potential. To be specific, the cabin structure is very rigid and has little room for improvement, and for normal street use the firewall and engine bay area shows little weakness. However, during high load, high stress track use - engine vibration and high load suspension movement makes the lack of rigidity apparent. The Spoon Sports Side Gusset Plates tie together the door hinge mounting points to the upper wheel well frame, tying together two adequately rigid portions of the chassis to create a chassis that is rigid in it's entirety.
